Local Chronicles : the Best source of Data

One of the key factors of GIS ( Geographic Information Systems )is the source of data and statistics. In the current information age, the local chronicles specific to China has become a valuable source of information due to its characteristics of the locality, objectivity, information and comprehensiveness. Local chronicle documentation as the broad sense data source exhibits its unique advantage of rich resources, advantage of covering modern and historic times, and the information-relative advantage especially at a time when GIS is extensively used in the present information society. Tapping local chronicle resource and taking it as the broad sense data source will greatly enhance the functions of geographic information systems and enabling them to be used more extensively, thus contributing to the economic construction.
