Quantitative Segmentation of the Three Gradient Terrain of China Based on DEM

Three Gradient Terrainsis a general description of Chinese terrain characters on relief amplitude.It portrays an outline of terrain changes like ladders along W-E direction.However the specific boundary of the Three Gradient Terrainsis still not clear,only with textual descriptions.Based on 1:1 000 000 scale of DEM,with the methods of spatial analysis,this paper realized quantitative segmentation of the three gradient terrain,and identified the specific boundary.The experiments show that the method of DEM based classification is feasi-ble.The results are not only consistent with the traditional knowledge of thethree gradient ter-rainin general,but also more accuracy and detail with boundary of three gradient terrain.This study is a knowledge mining based on 1:1000 000 DEM.It still enriches the application of digital terrain analysis.
