Structure analysis of typical fuzzy controllers with unevenly distributed input membership functions

Typical fuzzy controllers with two inputs and one output use full overlapped symmetrical triangular membership functions for the input variables; equally spaced singleton membership functions for the output variable; linear fuzzy control rules; the Sum Product inference method; and the center of area (COA) method for defuzzification. This paper proves that the analytical structure of typical fuzzy controllers is the sum of a global two dimensional multi level relay and a local linear PD controller. The output are given expressions for a typical fuzzy controller with five fuzzy sets for the input variables. These results are employed in a simulation of the model reference adaptive fuzzy control of an inverted pendulum.
