Intra-prediction mode selection in H.264 is the bottleneck of encoding.A fast mode selection algorithm is proposed based on the analysis of H.264.According to SAD value of Intra-16×16,the algorithm decides whether Intra-4×4 can be skipped. On the other way,it utilizes the SAD values of 4×4 block to filter out some less probable modes.Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm increases the speed of intra coding significantly and guarantees the image quality.
