Study on gray relation method used for diesel engine faults diagnosis

Gray theory based pattern recognition is now widely used in the field of mechanical fault diagnosis. On analyzing the features of applying gray relation to fault diagnosis, a gray relation diagnostic method for diesel engine fault diagnosis use is presented in this paper. Some characteristic parameters are abstracted from engine transient speed waveform and cylinder pressure waveform, and the dimensionless processing of the parameters is also discussed. Due to the uncertain physical meaning of the 1st order and 2nd order difference in Bmode relation, a treatment method is presented in this paper for better using Bmode relation in fault diagnosis. Experiment on a SCANIA DS11 engine confirms a good result of this diagnostic method.
