Measurements of data traffic in real networks show that there is self-similarity in traffic in these networks. The same situation is found in the multi-hop mobile Ad Hoc network. At present, research work related to MANET is limited to qualitative analysis. This paper presents a G/D/1 queuing model to analyze and simulate the queuing performance of a mobile Ad Hoc network.Simulation results show that self-similar traffic leads to deterioration of queuing performance and delay in mobile Ad Hoc networks. This paper proposes a routing algorithm based on a programming model for self-similar traffic in mobile Ad Hoc networks which employs multipath backup routing to reduce delaying and packet loss rates.Simulation results show that the new algorithm can increase the throughput of a network and improve the success ratio of packet delivery and decrease delays.
