INTEGRATED SERVICES AND DIFFERENTIATED SERVICES: A COMPARISON

IETF proposed on transfer layer two new architectures: Integrated Services and Differentiated Services. This paper analyzes their frameworks, functional blocks, principles and services provided; and then the pros and cons of individual philosophies, implementing mechanisms and QoS characteristics are presented, as well as an extended hybrid architecture compromised in terms of implementing and QoS characteristics is put forward.
