An algorithm for searching the correspondence points in the active shape models using the probabilistic principal component analysis

Active shape models(ASMs)are statistical models of the shapes of objects which iteratively deform to fit to an example of the object in a new image.The key of the ASMs is how to search the corresponding points of the landmarks in the ASMs.In this paper,a novel method based on Probabilistic Principal Component Analysis(PPCA)for the search of the corresponding points in the ASMs is presented.This approach is a kind of gray image-based method without the need for extracting the edge.Experimental results show that the corresponding points in the ASMs for river ships tracking can be searched from image correctly using the proposed algorithm.
