An Empirical Study on the Role of Suppliers in the Development of New Products

In new product development process,if manufacturers couldn't clearly identify the features and responsibilities of different suppliers,negative effects would be brought to the development process.It analyzes how to distinguish the different responsibilities of suppliers through practical investigation in an aerial institute,and propoese appropriate management method accordingly.Firstly,by studying the three dimensions of externally supplied components: characteristics of externally supplied components,costs of components and interactive characteristics between manufacturers and suppliers,the authors classify externally supplied components into five categories by using cluster analysis.Then responsibilities of suppliers are analyzed.Finally,how enterprises should treat suppliers with different responsibilities is discussed.
