Research on Aggregated Multicast and Group-Tree Mapping Algorithm

Heng Wang · Mini-micro Systems · 2004

A deep research on aggregated multicast, which is a novel approach to reduce multicast state, has been given in this paper. The key idea is that multicast groups forced to share a single distribution tree. At the expense of some bandwidth wastage, this approach can reduce multicast state and tree management overhead at core routers. In addition, we propose a group tree mapping algorithm to assign multicast groups to distribution tree, with controllable bandwidth overhead. This algorithm can greatly reduce extra tunneling and extension overhead on the base of bandwidth wastage.
