According to the new cash register standards issued by the government, cash registers should be able to recognize the number of paper currency. At present, the speed of mainstream cash registers is about 20 pieces per second. In this case,it is necessary to collect satisfying pictures of the numbers at high speed and recognize them as quickly as possible to ensure both the speed and the correct recognitions. This paper proposed a high-speed image collecting scheme to collect paper currency number, which was based on CIS( contact image sensor) and TMS320C6000 DSP devices, embedded with the existing algorithms in our institute. The experiments indicates that the system can consecutively collect high quality images of paper currency numbers without any miss, when equipped on a cash register operating at 20 pieces per second. Collecting one piece of image only requires 6 ms,and the recognition can be finished in 44 ms,which show that the recognition system can work real-time and reliably.
