A Method for DOA Estimation in the Presence of Mutual Coupling and Coherent Signals

Spatial smoothing algorithm is a common decorrelation method.However,its performance can be greatly degraded by the mutual coupling between array elements,thus the DOAs of coherent signals can not be estimated precisely.Aiming at this problem,a new method for DOA estimation is proposed in this paper.Based on the orthogonal character of signal and noise subspace,this method can estimate the mutual coupling matrix effectively with independent signals.Then the mutual coupling can be compensated and its negative effect on spatial smoothing can be overcome.So that the DOAs of coherent signals can be estimated precisely.Computer simulations are conducted to show that this method is effective.
