Iris coarse localization algorithm for both boundaries

The performance of iris localization algorithms is improved by estimating the inner boundary of the iris using the down-contour of the binary iris image, while estimating the outside radius of the iris using the gray average signals on both sides of the pupil. This approach is effective even when the serious occlusions caused by eyelids and eyelashes exist in the iris image.Experimental results indicate that the proposed method significantly improves the iris localization speed and accuracy, using only 71 ms for coarse localization with an accuracy superior to existing algorithms.
