With regard to few methods for evaluating the qualitative index and imperfect evaluation system in dam safety monitoring,a quantitative and comprehensive evaluation method for the qualitative index is established by introducing the interval marking method, the set-valued statistics, the grey theory and the Jousselme distance function.Firstly, the interval marking method and the set-valued statistics were employed to obtain the comprehensive quantitative value.Secondly, the evaluation level of the comprehensive quantitative value was quantified and the evidence vectors were obtained by means of the grey theory.Thirdly, the weights of all the qualitative indexes were obtained by use of the Jousselme distance function. Finally, the comprehensive influence of the qualitative indexes on the dam safety was determined by using the evidence vectors and weights. The case study indicates that the proposed method can be employed to rationally determine the influence of the qualitative index on the dam safety, and it is feasible.
