Study on the Problem and Elimination of Rank Reversal Existing in Ideal Point Multiple Attribute Decision Making

Huang De · Systems engineering and electronics · 2001

This paper analyses the objective rationality and the subjective non-rationality of rank reversal existing in ideal point multiple attribute decision making, and introduces the concepts of absolute ideal points and relative ideal points firstly. It is pointed out that the rank reversal existing in ideal point multiple attribute decision making, such as TOPSIS, is the results of using relative ideal points. Then a generalized TOPSIS, called GTOPSIS, is presented. It is proved that if using absolute ideal points, ideal point multiple attribute decision making, such as GTOPSIS etc, are strong rank preservation, namely there exists not any rank reversal in them.
