Nexus and Parsing in English-Chinese Simultaneous Interpreting(SI)-A Case Study
Junfeng Zhao · Journal of Ningbo Institute of Education · 2008
Syntactic linearity is one of the most essential principles of SI,which demands parsing of the source language. This paper probes into the rules of parsing in English-Chinese SI through a case study. In the light of nexus theory, the author analyzes units of parsing in the English-Chinese SI for President Bush's 2006 State of Union Address(with some deletions),discovers in the end that there is a positive correlation between nexuses and units of parsing,i.e.most of the units of parsing are nexuses.
