In an intra-frequency TD-SCDMA network, the signals from adjacent cells also produce the multiple access interference(MAI),which can not be eliminated by the conventional joint detection.Multi-cell space-time processing algorithm was proposed for the uplink receiver to remove both intra-cell and inter-cell MAI,by expanding joint detection algorithm to adjacent cells and combining with smart antenna technology. The strong interfering users of adjacent cells were selected based on the channel estimation results of adjacent cells.Instead of handling the signals from adjacent cells as white noise, the proposed algorithm included the strong interfering users of adjacent cells into the space-time processing matrix.Simulations under outdoor-to-indoor A(OTIA) and vehicular A(VEHA) channel models showed 3~4.8 dB of performance gain at the receiver by exploiting the multi-cell space-time processing algorithm. In addition, some problems related to the implementation were considered, such as the acquirement of necessary information of adjacent cells, the criteria in selecting the strong interfering adjacent cell users, and the computational complexity.By eliminating effectively the interference from strong interfering users in adjacent cells, the multi-cell space-time processing algorithm can significantly improve the performance of the intra-frequency TD-SCDMA system.
