Constructing Multimedia Dialect Corpus with ELAN

Developed at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen,the Netherlands,ELAN(EUDICO Linguistic Annotator) is an multimedia annotation tool that allows one to create,edit,visualize and search annotations for video and audio data.ELAN is widely used in discourse analysis,gesture language studies,language archiving,corpus construction,and language endangerment and dialect protection.This paper discusses on how to construct a multimedia dialect corpus with ELAN with a demonstration using the audios and videos taken during the investigation of Shuangfeng dialect in Hunan province.
