Min Lu · China Rural Water and Hydropower · 2006

Support Vector Machine(SVM) is a new kind of machine learning algorithm proposed recently. It can transfer the learning problem into a second planning to acquire the optimal solution according to the principle of structure risk minimum under limited samples situation. Thus,it can overcome the shortcoming of falliog into local minimum of neural network. The authors try to apply the method in the forecast of runoff, and compare the forecast results with those of BP neural network. It is proven that the runoff forecast precision of SVM method is higher than that of BP neural network.
