A new slot assignment protocol for maritime wireless networks— on-demand random slot assignment(DSRA) was proposed in this paper to solve the problem of reservation confliction and low efficiency. This protocol can assign different slots randomly for every node according to the traffic load of the network nodes, but does not need any prior information about the concrete topological structure of network nodes in the process of assigning slots.Modeling analysis and simulation results show that even in a crowded network or under heavy load, the protocol can still make effective slot assignments and run the network efficiently. For complicated situations caused by the mobility and the change of service distribution, the protocol can provide superior adaptability, robustness, and extensibility.
