Fractal coding is a promising technique for image compression. However, it demands a method to reduce coding time for its long encoding time and high computational complexity. Based on the property of fractal image coding algorithm, using the coefficient between fractal images to determine the comparability of them and search for the best matching blocks. This paper further proposes two strategies to improve both the quality and speed of fractal encoding. The number of times of comparatively rapid calculation is distinctly reduced the searching complexity and area. Experimental results show that the search for correlation factor is faster than basic fractal image coding while the quality of restituted images is not influenced by the search process.
