Analysis on the Origins and the Classification of Encyclopedias

This paper expounds the origins of Chinese ancient encyclopedias and the political purpose of the feudalism tallest ruler’s organizing the compilation of the encyclopedias, lists up the classification of encyclopedias in Chinese bibliographies of past dynasties, and puts forward the suggestion on establishing the relative categories of encyclopedia in all the category divisions of ancient book catalogue, all the subjects of today’s bibliographies and the comprehensive books.
