Study on scheduling algorithms for VOQ input-buffer switches
LI Wen-jiang · Radio and communications technology · 2006
Cell scheduling algorithm based on VOQ input-buffer strategy is a key factor of improving switch performance. The three kinds of representative scheduling algorithms (iSLIP, iLQF and DPA algorithm) are described in this paper. iSLIP algorithm is easily implemented in hardware and accomplishes convergence by no more than log_2N times, but it has not high efficiency in burst communication; it is suitable for small and middle scale high speed switch fabrics. iLQF algorithm has high scheduling efficiency, but it is implemented in hardware with more difficulty and has high time delay; it is barely used in switch fabrics. DPA algorithm can be implemented with simple combination logic and has low time delay, but has not high efficiency; it is suitable for large-scale high-speed switch fabrics.
