Solving the Application Layer Multicast Routing Problem Using Genetic Algorithms

Jinshu Su · Computer Engineering and Science · 2008

Due to the difficulties faced in the deployment of IP multicast, the application layer multicast is being increasingly recognized as a general multicast service policy. By analyzing the characteristics of the application layer overlay network, this paper proposes a more reasonable model for the application layer multicast routing problem. This novel model tries to optimize the delay and load balancing simultaneously. The complexity of the model is analyzed, and a method which is based on genetic algorithms is proposed to solve the problem. Simulation results show that the algorithm is both valid and effective.
