Role of Context Type in Pronouns Ambiguity Resolution for Individuals with Different Cognitive Style

The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of influence mechanism between field dependent(FD) and field independent(FI) individuals during pronouns ambiguity resolution by the role of global and local contexts.The results indicated that:(1)the global context and the local context influenced the comprehension of pronouns.The global and local contexts promoted the pronoun understanding when they were consistent with the pronoun reference,otherwise they would impede the pronoun understanding.(2) Different cognitive styles were affected differently by context.The FD individuals depended more on global context than FI individuals did,and this influence of discourse comprehension occurred in the later period,which was the integration period of context.
