Analysis and improvement of TCP fairness across mobile ad hoc networks and Internet

Meilin Shi · Journal of Communications · 2007

The behavior and reason of the TCP unfairness in Internet-connected mobile ad hoc networks based on IEEE 802.11 MAC were exposed through simulations and analysis. The concept of TCP fairness in hybrid environment was de-fined basing on the bandwidth occupation from the gateway, and an adaptive gateway bandwidth control scheme TCP-GAFC was proposed to solve the unfairness problem.TCP-GAFC only needs to be implemented in the gateways without modifying the TCP or MAC protocol. It has good applicability and scalability. The simulation results show that TCP-GAFC can significantly improve the TCP fairness, and can achieve reasonable throughput.
