From the Organic Pitch Structure to the Multivariate Organizing Musical Sounds

How does the relationship among the form structure, pitch structure and sounds structure in the music of free atonality? How does the group of sets develop and relate in the music work of free atonality? Based on Allen Forte's musical theory of pitch-class-set analysis, the papers explored the first one of Five Pieces for orchestra(Op.10),which were freely atonal by Anton Webern,a member of the Second Viennese School. The result showed that the piece was not only with strictly logal organization of pitches, but as the first one of five pieces for orchestra,it also preseted the pitch materials for the other four pieces,so it was a kind of hint and epitome to the whole structure. And meanwhile,Webern applied the core set not only for organized the pitch structure of the work, but also to organizing musical sounds. It was seemingly a multivariate sounds organization on surface level, while the pitch structure unified in the deep, which reflected the expansion and variation rule that proposed by the Second Viennese School for creative ideas and aesthetic pursuits.
