VoIP Voice Quality Prediction Model Based on Network Performance

Weimin Lei · Journal of Chinese Computer Systems · 2010

For the service quality monitoring and path switching,VoIP systems usually need to measure and predict network performance of paths, and map measured/predicted network performance into voice quality estimates. This paper presents a new VoIP voice quality prediction model based on network performance, the new model is based on the E-Model,but it is a reduction of E-model,and only considers variation of network performance. This new model considers less factors, and is easier to compute than E-model,thus it is more suitable for VoIP voice quality prediction. We compare new model with simple IP metrics in experiment, results show that new model has more description abilities of path quality than simple IP metrics.
