This paper presents modeling, performance analysis and simulation on multi-piconet Bluetooth systems. Public areas equipped with multiple-piconet Bluetooth systems are classified into two types according to their geographical characters and the purposes of employing Bluetooth systems. For the first type of the public areas whose owners deploy multiple Bluetooth access points to provide their customers broadband access services, the applicability of the available model is interpreted. For the second type of the places where multiple users use their own Bluetooth equipped devices to form his /her own Ad-hoc network, a novel grid-like model is proposed in this paper after abstracting the common geographical character of those places. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations on the Bluetooth system performances are given, using these two models and considering interference from other piconets. The impacts of interference, synchronization, distance between piconet access points, and Rayleigh fading on Bluetooth system performance are discussed, respectively. The design outlines are summed up for installing multiple Bluetooth piconet access points in public areas.
