Automatic recognition of synonyms for information retrieval and its trend

Recognition of synonyms is broadly used in many appl ications, such as information retrieval, auto-indexing, Post-controlled vocabulary designing, auto-classification based on the knowledge database, example-based machine translation and it is an issue to be solved in the domain of information representation and retrieval. At present, approaches to the automatic recognition of synonyms includes: dictionary defining based approach, corpora based approach, search engine based approach. At last,the paper introduces the current domestic development of synonyms recognition research.
