The Theory and Practice of Improving Performance of the Single Pattern String Matching Algorithm

BM algorithm was analyzed.Improvements were made based on shortcomings of BM algorithm in the open source software snort and the nature that the letter after the last position of pattern in string matching process cannot be skipped.Performance testing was done to the improved algorithm under different circumstances,and the results indicate that the improved algorithm has better performance than the original BM algorithm.
