Symbol-error-rate analysis in the AP-relayed inter-vehicular communication system over double-Rayleigh fading channels

The paper studies the error performance for the AP(access-point) relayed inter-vehicular communication(IVC) system based on the double-Rayleigh fading model. It analyzes the statistical properties of the receiving end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) by assuming amplify-and-forward relaying strategy.A generalized expression for the average symbol error rate(ASER) for performance evaluation of various M-ary modulations is derived through MGF(moment generating function) based approach for the system.Simulation results show that the ASER decreases by applying the relaying technique in the IVC system. They also manifest that about 2~3 dB SNR losses of the system performance are induced by differentially coherent M-DPSK versus coherent M-PSK and they are dependent on specific values of SNR and M.Compared with the equal power allocation strategy, the optimal power allocation method improves error performance by 2.4 dB maximum gains for the cooperative IVC system.
