Non-uniform Deployment of Wireless Sensor Networks:Analysis and Approach
Ming-Juan Wu · Journal of Chinese Computer Systems · 2010
The unbalanced traffic load in wireless sensor networks may cause the nodes closer to the sink to die earlier because they consume more energy on data forwarding. This creates energy hole near the sink and may shorten the network lifetime. This paper investigated the energy depletion in sensor networks deployed in a circular or a belt region, respectively,by considering the energy consumed for information sensing and transferring. And then theoretically proposed non-uniform node deployment approaches for these two scenarios.Simulation results show that when the lifetime of a network deployed according to the proposed method ends, the nodes in the network tend to have similar residual energy.
