In recent years, microprocessor-based systems have been introduced in power plants. These systems allow interface through high-speed data highways and provide the opportunity to distribute them geographically, thus reducing the installed cost of cabling to and from these systems. The installed cost differential between centrally located and geographically distributed microprocessor-based control and data acquisition systems is evaluated.
