With the acceleration of smart grid construction, the continuous increasing amount of power quality monitoring sites and gradual improvement of the system, various types of monitoring and calculation data increase dramatically and show a trend of big data. Cloud computing is a distributed computing model which can allocate computing tasks into resource pools made up of a large number of computers. For big data computing and processing, cloud computing platform has inherent advantages. This paper presents and initially implements a power quality cloud model using the Hadoop, whose aim is to integrate traditional computing and storage resources to solve power quality big data storage and computing problems. The model uses hierarchical structures and sets up a hierarchical power quality cloud computing platform based on natural stratifi cation grid. The architecture of the model is based on the SOA, but the sub-cloud built for each layer is based on the Hadoop and provides services for its higher layer. The Hadoop based power quality cloud model can not only solve the issues of power quality monitoring data storage and computation, but also have a reference for solving other information systems' big data problems in smart grid.
