A new method for automatic initializing contour of GVF Snake model

Snake model has been widely used in applications of digital image analysis and computer vision.One of the biggest problems in applying the model is not easy to realize automation in initialization of contour.Therefore,an improved watershed algorithm is introduced to determine initial contour of GVF Snake model.The improved watershed algorithm is adopted for pre-segmentation,and then the extracted object contour is taken as initial contour of active contour model for precise segmentation computation.The experiment results show that this method greatly decreases the amount of GVF iteration,improves the speed of convergence,reserves all the advantages of GVF Snake model as well as provides an effective approach for automatic initializing contour of Snake model.
