Optimization algorithm of fast mode decision for H.264/AVC inter-prediction

H.264/AVC uses many advanced techniques to achieve superior performance.In these techniques,multiple block size is an important part.However,searching all block sizes has remarkably increased the computational complexity.In order to reduce the complexity,this paper proposed a fast mode decision algorithm.The main techniques include: SKIP mode early termination;making use of space-temporal correlation to achieve candidate mode and then early termination by using adaptive threshold;skipping the intra mode search.The experimental results show that compared with JM10.2 and JVT,its maximum timesaving is more than 30% and 10%,respectively,without significant degradation of visual quality and increase in bit rate.
