Syntactic Features and Applications of Small Phrases in X-bar Theory

X-bar theory(or X' theory) is one of the essential theories adopted in Chomsky's Transformational Generative Grammar.Through the comprehensive study of the internal structures of small nominal phrases,small verbal phrases,small adjective phrases,small adverbial phrases,and small prepositional phrases,this paper intends to demonstrate the syntactic features and the applications of small phrases in interpreting some linguistic phenomena and ambiguous structures.
