Performance analysis of the estimate algorithms about network traffic's long-range dependence characteristics

Long range dependence (LRD) is the fundamental statistical characteristics of the network traffic. There are several algorithms to be used to evaluate LRD behavior of a time series. But all of these algorithms use the estimate methods instead of the calculate methods to estimate the Hurst parameter. So the Robustness of them under varied conditions needs to be studied. Five estimate algorithms are discussed and used to evaluate a LRD time series and a non LRD time series. According to the results, some useful advice on LRD research is presented.
