An effective high range resolution profile(HRRP) recognition method should be able to tackle the imprecision and uncertainty exhibited by HRRP.Hopefully, such imprecision and uncertainty may be delineated by rough set theory.A new approach employing rough set theory and Fourier-Mellin transform to solve HRRP recognition problem is presented here.Rough set theory can discover the target class relevant information and simultaneously remove the irrelevant information to the utmost degree.Fourier-Mellin transform bears the property of shift and scaling invariance, thus it can overcome the recognition difficulty caused by range bins shift and scaling. It is demonstrated by simulations that the method is very powerful in feature compression and the resulted recognition system works with a high probability of correct classification.
