Development of Double-Circular Quarter-Sawing Technique

To increase the yield rate of quarter sawn lumber,a double-circular sawing technique was developed and fully described in this paper.This technique included a scanning system to determine the configuration of a log(size and section information),computer software to optimize the sawing patterns based on the scanning information,and double-circular saws to cut the log according to the optimized pattern.Compared with the traditional band sawing method,the double-circular sawing technique improved the productivity and the lumber yield rate.
