Study on the transmission of MPEG bit stream over ATM network

To realize VOD， MPEG over ATM is a problem which has to be resolved． When transporting the format of the stream is the MPEG Transport stream， connection type is CBR， ATM adapt layer is AAL5． There are two transport methods to adapt MPEG TS into ATM cell：PCR-awareandPCR-unaware． Calculating the effect of these two methods shows， it is the best to use PCR-unaware method which adapt 2 TS packets into 8 ATM cells． When using PCR-unaware， the receiver needs to compensate the PCR delay jitter．
