In order to understand the distribution pattern of the larvae of cyphochilus sp. in Masson pine forest fields, a series of observations were made in 1985. Nine methods and ten indices of aggregation were reviewed and compared with their applications in the study of the spatial distribution of the larvae. All indices indicate that distribution of the larvae were of an aggregated pattern, and it can de represented by negative binomial series. The results of five sampling methods show that the sampling of parallel lines proved to be the best. The theoretical sampling number of forest survey was aualysed and calculated, and sampling precision was also estimated.
