The adaptability, stress resistance,as well as the characters of plant, ear, yield and quality were analyzed for the coated seeds of sixteen high-quality super-sweet maize varieties of American Adam series, sowing under tropic condition in Guangdong.Field observation and indoor and outdoor seed assessment and test showed that all the Adam varieties belonged to the type of early mature. The maize varieties were good at uniformity, with short plant, lower ear-position and low to middle level for fresh ear and kernel. The fresh ear was soft and crisp, which was excellent at the quality and nice taste, with thin peel, richness in sugar but low in water. The sugar in fresh ear degraded slowly and the quality guarantee period was long. However, for the environment difference between introducing and original area, most of the maize varieties were sensitive to plant disease and glowed abnormal.Studies indicated that 8 maize varieties(i.e.Adam 2,4,6,9,10,12,14,and 19) of the Adam series were better in totally estimating and could be utilized as original material for second cycle inbred line, while the others should be improved because those seedlings were apt to die,and kernels burst open seriously at milk stage.
