Automatic recognition of analog pointer meter based on image processing method

A novel method using image processing technolog for analog pointer meter automatic recognition is introduced to replace the artificial recognition method.Firstly,the image can be converted into binary image and can be preprocessed firstly.The longest straight line,which is the pointer in this meter image,can be found by Hough transformation algorithm.Then the coordinates of two endpoints of the pointer can be indicated.According to these coordinates,the scope of the corresponding value which are indicated by the pointer,can be calculated.After that,a small rectangle at the vicinity of pointer is extracted and the projection method is used to determine the pointer value.This method can solve the automatic verification problem in practical application perfectly.
