Two hundred and fifty-two undergraduate students participated in the current study. The study designed three kinds of experimental materials. The relational complexity was constantly changing. It arranged the condition of indirect relational category learning relation to individual and the condition of indirect relational category learning relation to referential communication. The study investigated the impact of relational complexity on the limited and free classification under the condition of indirect relational category learning. The results showed that relational complexity significantly influenced classification. The scores under the condition of referential communication were gradually reduced with increasing relational complexity. The scores under the individual learning condition gradually increased.Under the condition of lower relational complexity, the scores between the limited classification and the free classification were not significantly different.Under the condition of the higher and highest relational complexities, the scores of limited classification were significantly higher than those of free classification.
