Broad-Band IP Network Based on ATM & SDH and Optical Internet

The technologies for IP, ATM, SDH and WDM etc. are firstly introduced in this paper. The characteristics and advantages disadvantages about IP over ATM and IP over SDH are summarized, and the cause that the optical Internet is proposed is expatiated in brief. Lastly it is indicated that IP over ATM and IP over SDH will coexist and complement for a long time and that they will exert to actions in each application field during the process that the telecommunication and the computer are interinfiltrated into the information industry. Then they will transit to optical Internet.
