New algorithm with joint optimization in wireless sensor networks

In this paper,an Integrated MAC and Routing protocol(IMR)is proposed solving the energy problem for Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs).IMR is proposed for WSNs deployed for detecting rare events which require prompt detection and response.IMR organizes the network into concentric tiers around the sink(s),and event is reported by forwarding them from one tier to another in the direction of(one of)the sink(s).IMR is evaluated through analysis and simulations,and it is compared with S-MAC.IMR outperforms S-MAC for event-detection applications,in terms of total average power consumption.
