The IEEE 802.11 standard provides a low-cost solution for WLAN.However, due to the regulation of WLAN transmit power, its coverage is limited. To overcome this problem,IEEE Task Group S develops a new 802.11 standard-IEEE 802.11s,which involves multi-hop routing protocols,MAC layer forwarding and security of wireless Mesh networks. This paper gives the insight of the latest IEEE 802.11s draft and describes 802.11s-based test-bed,with which the performance of IEEE 802.11s network is evaluated. Finally, the possibility of video application over IEEE 802.11s networks is explored.
