Mobile Ad Hoc Network(MANET) is a temporary network constructed by a collection of wireless mobile nodes without infrastructures, and its network protocol research often involves modification and expansion. We analyze the route discovery and building process of classic on-demand routing protocol AODV.Through the kernel extension and recompiling of NS2 simulation software, the corresponding expansion contents are output on the console, including RREQ and RREP packets transmission, positive and negative routing table establishment, node routing table update and other information. The results show that it is a scientific and effective method to study, debug and analyze MANET routing protocol under NS2 simulation software. Finally several improvement ideas and methods are proposed for AODV protocol.
